The Water Crisis (El bien general vs. El bien particular)
The town of Riverdale was facing a severe drought, and the local government asked all citizens to limit their water use to save the community reservoir. Marco wanted to wash his dirty car for a big car show on the weekend. He knew that washing it would use a lot of water, which was bad for the community. However, winning the car show would give him prize money. Marco faced a dilemma: should he think about his personal benefit or the common good? In the end, he decided to use a damp cloth instead of a hose. He realized that a clean car was not as important as making sure his neighbors had enough drinking water during the crisis
The Secret Shortcut (El bien general vs. El bien particular)
Sara was running very late for a critical job interview. She was stuck in a massive traffic jam outside the city center. She noticed an empty lane on the right side of the road. That lane was reserved exclusively for emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks. Sara knew that if she used the lane, she would arrive on time for her interview. However, if everyone blocked that lane for personal reasons, an ambulance might get stuck during a real emergency. Sara chose to stay in her lane. She understood that public safety and the general good must always be more important than individual urgency.
The Group Project (El bien general vs. El bien particular)
Daniel and three classmates were working on a science project that represented 40% of their final grade. On Thursday, Daniel found a cool video game that he wanted to play all afternoon. He knew his team needed him to finish his part of the research so they could assemble the presentation. Daniel faced a conflict: playing the game would bring him immediate personal happiness, but neglecting his work would ruin the grade for the entire group. He paused and chose to complete his research first. He realized that being a responsible teammate and protecting the collective success of his group was his true duty.
